What We Do

Three pillars. One back office.

We build the system, run the process, and keep the numbers honest every month. You run the business.

Growing businesses cannot afford full-time back office staff. They cannot afford to operate without one. Sideways Systems is built for exactly that gap.

PILLAR 01

FINANCE

Automated accounting, monthly close oversight, visual financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and CFO-level advisory on every engagement.

Not included: Tax preparation, securities advice, or CPA work of any kind.

02

OPERATIONS

AP/AR process design and execution, workflow documentation, vendor management, and the operational infrastructure that runs without the owner's constant involvement.

Not included: HR management, employment law, or executive operations leadership.

Course 03

TECHNOLOGY

Financial systems integration, automation workflows, AI-powered reporting, and back office dashboard builds with Microsoft Excel and Dynamics 365 integration.

Not included: IT support, hardware, network management, or software development.

THE DIFFERENTIATOR

The back office dashboard.

A live operational view of your business, built in Notion and Claude Code, updated automatically from your accounting system every month.

What it shows you

Cash position and weekly trend. Revenue vs budget. Labor cost as a percentage of revenue. AP and AR aging. Key operational metrics by industry. Monthly close status. All in one view, updated automatically, no login required.

For clients in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, the dashboard feeds directly into Excel and Dynamics 365 so you see your numbers in the tools you already use. No new platform. No adoption barrier.

HOW IT WORKS (SIX STEPS TO RUNNING A BACK OFFICE)

Every engagement follows the same path. No surprises.

Service Tracks

All tracks start with a Discovery Assessment. The difference is who handles execution.

Track 1

We build and oversee the back office. You provide the internal AP person who handles execution under the system.

  • Full back office system setup and integration

  • QBO or Xero configuration and automation

  • Back office dashboard deployed

  • Monthly close oversight and exception review

  • Visual monthly financial report

  • Weekly 30-minute check-in

Track 2

SCOPE CLARITY

What is not included.

Knowing the lane is how we keep the trust. These belong to other professionals and are referred accordingly.

Tax preparation or filing

We refer every client to a vetted CPA. Clean books delivered at year end.

Securities or investment advice

We are not registered investment advisors.

Legal counsel or contract review

Referred to the appropriate attorney.

Payroll processing

We integrate with your existing payroll. We do not run it.

IT support or hardware

Technology work covers financial systems integration only.

Network or software development

Beyond dashboard builds and financial system integration, refer to an IT professional.

GOOD FIT

Who this is for.

Sideways Systems takes on a small number of clients at a time. Engagements are selective by design.

The right client is good at running their business. They are not good at running their back office. And they are ready to stop pretending those are the same skill.

You are a good fit if your business does $500K to $10M in annual revenue, you operate in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, and you are at one of these points:

  • Growth has outpaced your current financial infrastructure

  • A transition, sale, or ownership change requires clean books and documented processes

  • Tax season revealed problems that should have been caught months earlier

  • Your technology was set up by a vendor and never properly integrated

  • You are spending your own time on back office work instead of the business

Priority industries: restaurants and food service, marine services and harbor businesses, specialty retail, independent hospitality operators, professional services firms, construction and trade contractors.

Ready to stop managing
your own back office?

Engagements begin with a 90-minute Discovery Assessment. You will know exactly what the system looks like and what it costs before committing to anything.
