The First Raffles in North America

What’s your escape?

For me, it looks like stepping into Raffles Boston in the heart of Back Bay and immediately feeling the city soften around me. The hotel sits just off Copley Place, within walking distance of Newbury Street, Fenway Park, the Museum of Fine Arts, Symphony Hall, and some of Boston’s best shopping and dining. And yet, once inside, it feels removed — calm, elevated, and intentionally paced.

The sky lobby on the seventeenth floor sets the tone. It’s a dramatic three-story space with a sweeping staircase and a sense of arrival that feels deliberate rather than performative. Staff are present without hovering, attentive without interruption. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear that service here isn’t about spectacle — it’s about precision.

Two features in particular define the Raffles experience: the butler service and in-room personal shopping. The butler service stood out immediately. Having someone who anticipates needs without intruding on your time subtly changes the rhythm of a stay. It allows you to relax into the experience rather than manage it. In-room personal shopping offers a similar kind of ease — indulgent, yes, but also incredibly convenient, especially when the goal is uninterrupted comfort.

Wellness is a clear priority throughout the property. Guests have access to a twenty-four-hour fitness center, a twenty-meter lap pool, an oversized vitality pool, and the Guerlain Spa, which offers an array of luxurious treatments. Whether you’re looking to reset after travel or fully lean into rest, the facilities support both.

Dining plays a central role at Raffles Boston. The property brings together an impressive lineup of restaurants and bars, each with a distinct point of view. Amar anchors the experience with refined Portuguese-inspired cuisine rooted in local ingredients. The Long Bar and Terrace offers all-day dining with New England classics, cocktails, and afternoon tea. Blind Duck focuses on crafted cocktails paired with a seasonally rotating menu of small plates, each drink telling its own story. Café Pastel provides a more casual counterpoint with pastries, juices, and smoothies throughout the day. La Padrona, opening May 15th, will introduce classic Italian dishes and further expand the hotel’s already thoughtful dining portfolio.

Raffles Boston manages to feel luxurious without being excessive, polished without feeling stiff. It’s a place where service, design, dining, and wellness work together seamlessly — creating an experience that feels both elevated and deeply comfortable.

Field Note

Raffles Boston often partners with Amex Platinum Travel and Chase Sapphire programs. I typically book through Amex Travel using the Platinum concierge service or app. Perks may include daily breakfast for two, room upgrades when available, early check-in, guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout, a $100 experience credit, complimentary Wi-Fi, and an annual $200 hotel credit — benefits that often make the stay well worth the investment.

Song Suggestion for Raffles Boston is the instrumental piano version of Love Story by Indilia. This song evokes vibes of a classic story of love with a hint of luxury, the latter being readily on offer at Raffles.
